Additional Information

I have lived and worked in the Peak District since 1991 and been a Hathersage Parish Councillor since 2010.  I am currently Chair of the Parish Council Swimming Pool Committee and also the HR Committee.  I have worked as an Outdoor and Environmental Education teacher and leader.  I was Head of a residential centre for primary school environmental visits.  I spent much time engaging with children, young people and teachers on environmental issues and the important role of a National Park.  I have also worked as an advisor for British Orienteering.

Previously I worked as a Chartered Town Planner, youth worker and special school Teacher in Manchester.  I have a BA (Hons) in Town and Country Planning.  I have an extensive knowledge and understanding of outdoor sports including hill walking, cycling, climbing, orienteering, swimming and caving.

As a Parish Member I will strive to listen to and support local people and businesses in the context of National Park aims and policies, doing my best to ensure that our local communities continue to thrive.

Important issues include:

a.    Park wide management of visitor traffic and car parking

b.    Improvement of public transport to facilitate more sustainable visits and mobility for local people

c.    Truly affordable local housing for local people

d.    Retaining primary residential housing to promote viable local communities

e.    Effective events policies that facilitate access to the National Park whilst respecting local communities

f.     Protecting our countryside from irresponsible tourism, such as barbeques and trespass

g.    Safeguarding and enhancing the landscape and biodiversity of our National and Internationally important asset.

In a personal capacity I am a member of:

·         British Orienteering

·         Fell Runners Association (Life Member)

·         South Yorkshire Orienteers.
