East Midland Councils
Description
The Authority appoints one Member representative to East Midlands Councils (EMC) Executive Board and the same Member to their Regional Employers Board.

Approximately 8 meetings per year.
EMC enables councils across the
East Midlands to work together on key issues, providing advice and
support, and representing the interests of our members to
Government and national organisations.
EMC is a member owned and led organisation consisting of the 40
local authorities in the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire,
Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland areas. Town and Parish Councils, Fire Authorities,
voluntary bodies, and other organisations engaged in the delivery
of local services may apply to join as an Associate
Member.
EMC are also a Regional
Employers’ Organisation, representing the interests of
employers of local government staff.
EMC provide regional leadership on asylum and refugee resettlement,
workforce issues, supporting the leading role of councils on
Midlands Connect and the Midlands Engine and work with DfT on the
East Midlands Rail Franchise process, all of which provides huge
benefits to local authorities.
EMC also work with MPs and the East
Midlands Chambers of Commerce to support the East Midlands All
Party Parliamentary Group.
EMC Executive Board – meets approx 4 times per year:
· The Executive Board is the strategic decision-making body of East Midlands Councils on issues of interest and relevance to Local Authorities at the regional level.
· The Executive Board comprises 14 local council leaders with authority to act on behalf of all local councils in the East Midlands.
· Leaders of the 4 main political groupings represented on East Midlands Councils and the Chair of the Peak District National Park Authority also attend and make a full contribution to Board meetings.
EMC Regional Employers Board – meets approx 4 times per year:
· Representing the interests of our member authorities by providing a steer on a range of employment issues.
· The purpose of the Regional Employers’ Board is to allow senior members to provide a steer on employment issues and councillor development, representing the interests of local authorities across the region. The Regional Employers’ Board forms the Employers’ Side of the Regional Joint Council.
· The Regional Employers’ Board is made of elected representatives from Local Authorities in the East Midlands. The 15 elected members reflect the political balance of the region.
