About Me
I have lived in the Peak District National Park all my life and have served as a member of the authority for more than 14 years during which time I have served on all the main committees, many of its panels and advisory groups.
My special interests are in affordable housing, environmentally friendly quarrying, renewable energy sources and farming. I am actively seeking to reduce my own carbon footprint.
I work with communities in various ways being a parish member of the Peak District National Park Authority and a member of two Safer Neighbourhood teams. I give Mondays to Thursdays each week to pursue my parish and community involvements so I can listen to what other people have to say and help where I can.
I am chairman of Rowsley Parish Council and an executive member of the Derbyshire Association of Local Councils. I retired as a humanities teacher in 1994 because I was concerned our environment was fast disappearing under bulldozers and wanted to do something positive about that issue. I ran a bed and breakfast cottage in the national park for many years.
What the national park means to me
As a life-long resident of the Peak District National Park, I care passionately about the preservation of its heritage, its beauty, the welfare of its residents and improving facilities for its tourists.
My commitment towards the environment comes from being an active and practising Christian. As a regular church attendee I believe that in Genesis we are called to be both stewards and servants of this God given landscape and therefore I have for many years been a member of Christian Ecology Link (CEL).
